The circular economy offers a model assumed by nature, that is grounded on a better metabolism which avoids waste and underuse of all forms of capital, from natural to man-made, to human, and to social. We therefore need a new design and planning for our cities.

Ambiente, energia ed economia costituiscono un triangolo di interdipendenze essenziale per la costruzione di una nuova strategia di sviluppo. Sistema ambientale e sistema energetico rappresentano il "punto di ingresso" critico per attivare uno sviluppo sostenibile della città. Le città sono, infatti, il luogo dello spazio geografico dove si concentrano il consumo di energia e l'inquinamento, contribuendo ad aggravare i problemi globali, nonché le condizioni locali di crisi ambientale. Ma le città possono anche rappresentare il luogo dal quale far partire la transizione da un'economia del carbonio ad un'economia basata sulle fonti rinnovabili e sull'uso più efficiente dell'energia.
