In 1960, photographer William Claxton and noted musicologist Joachim E. Berendt traveled the United States hot on the trail of jazz. Through music halls and marching bands, side streets and subways, they sought to document thisliving, breathing, beating musical phenomenon that enraptured America across social, economic, and racial lines. The book Jazzlife, the original fruit of their labors, has become a collector's item that is highly treasured among jazz and photography fans. In 2003, TASCHEN began reassembling this important collection of material—along withmany never-before-seen color images from those trips. Nel 1665 venne pubblicato il più completo atlante del periodo barocco. L'Atlas Major constava di 11 volumi in latino, conteneva 596 mappe e permise al suo editore di surclassare il suo antagonista, il cartografo Johannes Janssonius. L'Atlas Major illustrava le regioni artiche, l'Europa, l'Africa, l'Asia, e le Americhe. Ancor oggi rimane uno degli esempi più illustri di cartografia. La ristampa qui proposta si basa sulla copia in possesso della Biblioteca Nazionale di Vienna. L'introduzione all'opera è del professor Peter van der Krogt dell'Università di Utrecht e affronta il significato dell'atlante inserendolo nel contesto storico e culturale.
