One year after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the war has exacerbated the rift between Russia and the "collective West". While Western governments have been steadfast in punishing Russia for the invasion, other countries around the world have been more ambiguous, at times even choosing to side with Moscow politically or economically. These dynamics have revived the idea of a shift towards multipolarity along an anti-Western trajectory. Are we really heading in that direction? Are we facing increasing fragmentation due to the war or a re-consolidation of longstanding alliances? What principles underlie the formation of these blocs? What are the consequences of these dynamics for global security and the global economy? This Report aims to shed light on these questions, while also outlining the war's possible future implications for the Russian Federation, the "West", and the international order.

L'invasione dell'Ucraina ha rimesso in discussione gli equilibri geopolitici in Europa, con conseguenze e riflessi su tutti i paesi del mondo. Un mondo che ora sembra tornare a un futuro sempre più simile a molti "passati" che pensavamo di esserci ormai lasciati alle spalle. Ritorna o sembra tornare la logica dei "blocchi contrapposti" in Europa. La NATO ritrova la propria identità dopo un trentennio di smarrimento. Torna a crescere l'importanza dei paesi "non allineati", in primis Cina e India ma anche molti governi dell'America Latina, alla ricerca di un difficile equilibrio tra i "grandi". Ritorna l'accoppiata di alta inflazione e crisi energetica, che ci proietta agli anni Settanta, l'epoca dei razionamenti e dei tassi a doppia cifra. E poi tornano la minaccia nucleare, la povertà e, forse, il rischio di un mondo meno globalizzato. Tutti questi "ritorni" sono cambiamenti cruciali che impattano sull'Europa e sull'Italia e che il Rapporto ISPI 2023 cerca di tratteggiare. Per offrire ai lettori una bussola per un mondo che cambia.
